Alex Kertesz is a biochemist, Handsome, popular - with everyone except his artist wife - and good at what he does, he is the opposite of Professor Ilan Falk, whose body he discovers one night in a University of Jerusalem laboratory. He had just been wishing that Falk would go to hell when an explosion in the laboratory sent him there.
Was Falk's death the result of an accident? The professor had many enemies for whom his demise was uncannily timely. One, his lovely lab assistant, confides to Alex that at the moment of the explosion she, too, had been wishing Falk dead. Her wish had been specific and conformed exactly to the actual circumstances.
If it wasn't an accident, and if all the other possibilities can be ruled out, Alex will be forced to consider the possibility that wishes can kill.
The Wish to Kill An Alex Kertész Mystery Alex Kertesz Mysteries Book 1 eBook Janet Hannah
This is one of the most boring books I have ever read! Although the premise has promise, it is weakly explored and the tedious character development, which leads one to believe that something exciting, dramatic, or steamy will happen, never delivers. It would be my wish that the author stick to biochemistry...who knows, maybe during an experiment she'll be distracted with thoughts of an equally boring sequel and blow herself up!Product details

The Wish to Kill An Alex Kertész Mystery Alex Kertesz Mysteries Book 1 eBook Janet Hannah Reviews
When Ilan Falk is blown up in a lab explosion, no one doubts it's an accident. Until a beautiful young research assistant tells Alex Kertész that she killed the professor. Simply by wishing him dead.
Scores of others wished the professor dead too, and Alex starts wondering if ill wishes really can do bodily harm. The accident begins to intrigue him and invite further study.
Alex is a dream - a brilliant, handsome biochemist working in Jerusalem, half-Hungarian, half-French and fluent in several languages. He has plenty of courage - in Israel's war with Lebanon where he's badly wounded, and in the lab where he risks exposure to radioactive materials, poisonous fumes - and violence. With all these dazzling attributes, he somehow comes across as a nice guy, totally likeable.
His interactions with his weird wife, his young son and the various attractive women he encounters are charmingly portrayed.
The character of Alex is definitely my favorite thing about the novel. But I also loved the authenticity of the lab talk, the lab work, the conference going and the grant chasing. Author Janet Hannah is herself a biochemist, and she brings her world vividly to life in this book.
Hannah is adept at creating a sense of place. Readers familiar with Jerusalem (which I'm not) should take pleasure in the author's affectionate snapshots of the various neighborhoods in the city.
I liked the easygoing, casual unfolding of events, too. The narrative felt more like real life than a plot. Quite an achievement!
The only negative was the mystery itself, which I found far less interesting than the characters, their relationships and the exotic setting. So regardless of some imperfections, and in view of the sheer enjoyment I got from reading this book, I really have to give it five stars.
This is one of the most boring books I have ever read! Although the premise has promise, it is weakly explored and the tedious character development, which leads one to believe that something exciting, dramatic, or steamy will happen, never delivers. It would be my wish that the author stick to biochemistry...who knows, maybe during an experiment she'll be distracted with thoughts of an equally boring sequel and blow herself up!
